Konjac Sponge: What It Is and How to Use It
The konjac sponge is an essential accessory in our skincare routine: completely natural and easy to use, it will help you get the skin you want! Thanks to its porous structure, it deeply cleanses the skin and gently exfoliates it, leaving it soft and luminous. What is a konjac sponge? The konjac sponge is obtained from a type of potato that grows in Asia, at high altitudes, where the air is purer and very rich in minerals. From this plant we obtain the konjac sponge, 100% vegetal and totally biodegradable , which can be used for daily cleansing of the face and body. The pH of this sponge is alkaline and is therefore perfect for rebalancing the acidity of the skin , making it brighter and healthier. The traditional sponge is a half sphere, usually as big as the palm of the hand, accompanied by a string that serves to allow the product to dry perfectly. How do you use the konjac sponge? The konjac sponge can be used morning and evening to cleanse your face, alone or combined with your favorite cleanser. If this is your first time using it , soak the sponge in warm water for 5-10 minutes to soften it thoroughly. Squeeze the sponge between your hands to remove excess water; never wring out the sponge , its fibres are very delicate and could be damaged. Massage the sponge into your skin using small circular motions, from the center of your face outwards; you can use the sponge with or without a facial cleanser , but if you choose to use a cleanser, just a small amount is enough! Once you have finished cleaning, rinse the sponge well under running water and let it dry by hanging it up by its cord. How long does a konjac sponge last? The konjac sponge lasts 2-3 months from the first use , then it will begin to crumble naturally. To prolong the life of your sponge, always rinse it well after each use and let it dry completely. I recommend that you do not store your sponge in the bathroom, as humidity may prevent the sponge from drying properly. The konjac sponge can be disposed of by throwing it in the organic waste . How many types of konjac sponges are there? The traditional konjac sponge is white, very porous, and spherical in shape. On the market you can find sponges already soaked in distilled water, ready to use, but I prefer the dried ones, which allow you to reduce the use of packaging. For some years now it has also been possible to find colored sponges, enriched with active ingredients that are beneficial for our skin. Let's find out together which ones: Bamboo Charcoal Konjac Sponge : The black charcoal konjac sponge is perfect for oily and acne-prone skin and can also be used by teenagers. The purifying active ingredients naturally present in activated charcoal absorb excess sebum and remove dirt in depth, preventing the appearance of pimples and blackheads. Green Clay : the sponge with green clay is ideal for purifying the skin by eliminating excess toxins. It leaves the face toned and compact and is a valid ally in combating dilated pores. Perfect for oily and combination skin. Pink Clay : If you have delicate and sensitive skin, the ckonjac sponge with pink clay is perfect for you! It gently cleanses and soothes skin irritated by exposure to environmental stresses such as cold, sun or air conditioning. It improves the elasticity of the skin and has a brightening effect on the complexion. Red Clay : the sponge enriched with red clay is perfect for dry and mature skin, but also for problematic skin that needs to improve tone and reduce redness. Recommended in case of eczema, but also for skin subject to psoriasis or rosacea, precisely for the soothing effect of red clay. Acid Rinse: What It Is and How to Do It for Soft, Shiny Hair
The acid rinse is a fundamental step in our beauty routine , to have shiny, healthy and soft hair. In fact, during shampooing, the temperature of the water and the pH of the products we use for cleansing can cause the hair scales to open, leaving the hair frizzy and dull. What is acid rinse and what is it for? The acid rinse is a simple process that consists of performing the final rinse with cold water made slightly acidic by adding lemon or vinegar. It helps restore the hair's natural pH and dissolve limescale residues, for healthy, shiny hair. The external structure of hair can be compared to that of a tiled roof: the surface is in fact covered with small scales that, if they remain closed and compact, protect the hair from atmospheric agents and make it shiny and soft. During shampooing, the scales tend to open , due to the heat of the water and the pH of the detergents, giving the hair a damaged and dull appearance. In addition, the limestone, naturally present in tap water, is deposited on the hair, making it hard and frizzy. How do you do an acid rinse? Preparing the acid rinse is very simple and requires common ingredients that we find in the kitchen. There are several methods to acidify the water needed for the final rinse. Acid rinse with vinegar You can use wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar, the ones you normally find at the supermarket and use in the kitchen. 1 litre of cold water. 1 tablespoon vinegar In addition to acetic acid, vinegar contains mineral salts, vitamins and sugars, which will hydrate the hair. Don't worry about the smell: once your hair is dry it won't be noticeable anymore! In any case, if you don't like a strong smell, I recommend using apple cider vinegar , which has a more delicate smell and a pH more similar to that of the hair, thus being more delicate! Acid rinse with lemon juice If you have lemon at home or if you just can't stand the smell of vinegar, you can use the acid rinse with lemon juice. 1 litre of cold water. 1 tablespoon lemon juice Do not overdo the dosage, to avoid obtaining the opposite effect! Acid Rinse with Citric Acid The acid rinse with citric acid is my favorite solution because it is eco-friendly and completely odorless. Citric acid is extracted from lemons and comes in the form of a white powder. Being extremely concentrated, very little is needed to acidify water. 1 teaspoon pinch 1 liter of cold water However, I find it more convenient to prepare a citric acid solution first: just put 100 g of citric acid in a half-liter bottle of distilled water , shaking well to dissolve all the powder. When washing, I dilute 1 tablespoon of this solution 1 litre of cold water And voilà my acid rinse is ready! Citric acid is the most eco-friendly solution, because it is a light ingredient to manufacture and transport! When should acid rinse be used? The acid rinse should always be used, after every shampoo and conditioner. Once you have thoroughly rinsed out your shampoo and conditioner, do one final rinse with your acidified solution. You can pour the water directly onto your hair, starting from the scalp and letting it drip down the lengths, or you can immerse your hair for a few seconds in a bowl with your acid rinse. The acid rinse does not need to be rinsed off , it is the last step of our washing routine. If you wash your hair very often, I recommend alternating the acid rinse with a natural hydrolate , to avoid drying your hair too much. You can use a Rosemary Hydrolate , with a toning and polishing action, which helps you to gently close the hair scales and has a strengthening and illuminating action. Perfect for all hair types, it is particularly suitable for weak and falling hair, for oily and impure scalps, and in cases of dandruff . If you have a dry and irritated scalp, if your hair is fragile and thin and tends to fall out, try Hamamelis Hydrolate , refreshing, soothing and toning. How to Make Sherazade, the Henna Hair Mask
Sherazade, also known as Henna Gloss, is a DIY hair mask made with two simple ingredients: silicone-free conditioner and henna. Straight, wavy or curly, but not only! There are 12 types of hair texture! Fine hair: Your hair is thinner than the thread Normal hair : your hair is like thread Thick hair: Your hair is thicker than the thread Porosity Does your hair absorb or resist moisture and products? Its absorption capacity is determined by its porosity! But how do you understand the porosity of your hair? If you have long hair , take a lock of your hair and place it in a bowl of water. Dry hair: it gets dirty a few days after washing, it doesn't appear greasy, it is delicate, it breaks easily and it looks frayed with split ends at the ends. Frizzy hair: This is untamed dry hair, it swells and reacts immediately to atmospheric conditions, it is fragile, dull and rough to the touch. Normal hair: can be washed, in normal conditions, every three days. It appears shiny and soft. This is the hair we all want! Greasy hair: it gets dirty the day after washing and immediately appears greasy at the roots. These conditions are closely linked to the health of the scalp! Scalp How is your scalp? Is it dry, oily or normal? The health of your scalp is crucial to the health of your entire hair, as it gets nourishment from there! As you have learned by now, wash your hair with natural and neutral shampoo. Do not apply products before or after and then give your scalp a little check! The scalp is in excellent shape: it is light pink, smooth and does not flake . Dead cells fall off imperceptibly.
