Sensitive Scalp: Recognizing and Treating It

Like the skin on your face and body, your scalp can also become overly sensitive , which can cause discomfort and disturbance throughout the day and night! About 60% of women and 40% of men suffer from sensitive scalps and the problems they cause, such as dandruff. It is a nuisance that can be alleviated with the right treatments.

What is sensitive scalp

Symptoms of sensitive scalp may include burning, pain, itching, and redness .
If the discomfort is very frequent or intense then perhaps we are faced with a hyper-reactive and hyper-sensitive scalp.

The cause of the symptoms is that the physiological flora of the scalp changes and microorganisms multiply.

In addition to the itching sensation, there is a feeling of dryness and the scalp is reactive to the touch and dandruff may also appear. The skin cells of the scalp renew themselves too quickly, causing them to form.

Symptoms can be caused by an unbalanced diet or the use of wrong shampoos and treatments, by certain climates, pollution and stress!

All these are factors to take into account to understand why the scalp skin has become so sensitive and improve its condition as much as possible.

Shampoo is a major cause of scalp sensitivity because conventional cosmetic shampoos often use harsh surfactants that can strip away the scalp's acid mantle , the natural acid barrier that protects the skin, making it more susceptible to dryness and irritation.

Other causes are

  • the weather conditions such as sun, cold, heat and wind;
  • physical or emotional stress, we are one with our mind;
  • environmental pollution and smog;
  • hormonal changes such as adolescence, pregnancy, menopause and menstrual cycle;
  • some food allergies or intolerances:
  • chlorinated or salt water .

How Dry Itchy Scalp Develops

It's all due to microinflammations , which are mild inflammations of the skin.

By studying the skin we can find the presence of immuno-inflammatory skin cells, which means that the skin responds to stimuli by becoming inflamed in an attempt to restore itself.
If these skin cells are then subjected to further irritation, the skin can react with a severe inflammatory response.

These microinflammations are part of most scalp disorders such as thinning hair, dandruff, dryness, and consequent itching with other skin sensitivity.

Remedies for Sensitive Scalp Symptoms

To restore the physiological balance it is essential to use delicate products specifically for sensitive scalps.

Also try to follow a correct daily routine:

  • Massage your scalp regularly to stimulate blood circulation
  • Don't keep your hair tied up for too long, let it "breathe" during the day.
  • under the sun, wear a hat to protect your hair or a specific protector such as one specifically formulated with hydrating, regenerating and antioxidant action.
  • eat healthy: fruit, vegetables, fiber and raw oil
  • drink eight glasses of water a day
