Facial Toner and Hydrating Mist
Facial toner is a cosmetic that is used in daily skincare , immediately after cleansing. Facial toner is used to balance the skin's pH which, after cleansing, could be altered by the use of overly aggressive detergents or, simply, by the limestone present in the water.
Facial toner also helps prepare your skin for subsequent skincare treatments to amplify the action of facial serum, facial cream and facial oil.
In facial toners you will find hydrating, soothing, softening, decongestant ingredients that are suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive and delicate skin ; there are obviously also facial toners with astringent, purifying and refreshing ingredients perfect for oily and combination skin.
Applying facial toner is really very simple: apply the product on a pad or directly on the palm of your hand and pat until absorbed. If the product has a spray, simply spray it directly on your face at a distance of 10/15 cm.
How to choose the right facial toner
The only question to answer to understand which facial toner is best for your needs is valid for any cosmetic: what type of skin do you have?
In fact, depending on your skin type, it may be ideal to evaluate a specific toner rather than another.
Here's which facial toner you should choose based on your skin type:
• Facial toner for normal skin: these are generic toners, precisely because this type of skin does not have any particular needs. The only thing it needs is to maintain constant health over time.
However, opt for a toner that has nourishing and hydrating ingredients such as aloe or lavender.
• Facial toner for sensitive or rosacea-prone skin: toners for this type of skin must be absolutely free of alcohol and, in the case of strong reactions, also of added fragrances.
Opt for a toner with soothing and decongestant ingredients, such as chamomile, lemon balm or linden.
In cases of rosacea, butcher's broom and horse chestnut are also very useful because they protect the microcirculation.
• Facial toner for dry skin: even in this situation, alcohol is absolutely forbidden among the ingredients of the toner. Choose a toner with ingredients based on plant extracts capable of nourishing and regenerating.
Choose a toner with rose, orange, lemon balm or chamomile extract.
Substances such as glycerin and sorbitol are also highly recommended, as are allantoin, urea and sodium lactate.
• Facial toner for combination skin : this type of skin is the most difficult to treat because it has dry areas, normal areas and oily or impure areas.
Opt for a toner that contains gentle ingredients, such as rose water, lavender or orange blossom, and aloe.
• Facial toner for oily skin: this is the only case in which a slightly alcoholic toner can be used. Sebum-normalizing plant extracts such as burdock, propolis, rosemary or sage are highly recommended.
Opt for a toner with witch hazel or lavender hydrolate.
Even lightly exfoliating toners can be a valid ally in the beauty routine of this type of skin. In this case, the best ingredients are based on salicylic acid or azelaic acid.
Hydrolates as a facial toner
Hydrolates, also known as aromatic waters , are a by-product of the distillation of essential oils from fresh medicinal plants.
This distillation occurs thanks to a current of steam which has the task of producing water capable of preserving the properties of the plants.
They have many fields of application but, with the creation of face masks, they can be very valid for the care of your skin.
Here are some:
• Damask rose hydrolate : hydrating, soothing, anti-aging and toning. Furthermore, it purifies and refreshes. It is ideal for all skin types.
• Lavender hydrolate: refreshing, soothing and decongestant. Excellent for dermatitis and skin inflammation. It is ideal for combination skin.
• Orange blossom hydrolate: soothing and hydrating, it is ideal for combination or dry skin. Furthermore, thanks to its regenerating and illuminating actions, it is very valid for mature or dull skin.
• Rosemary hydrolate : a perfect skin purifier and sebum-balancing agent, it is also astringent and antiseptic. Excellent for combination and oily skin.
• Sage hydrolate : it is specific for oily skin or skin with a lot of acne. This hydrolate is also antiseptic and sebum-balancing, as well as being soothing and decongestant.
• Chamomile hydrolate: soothing, anti-reddening, antibacterial and antiseptic. It is particularly suitable for sensitive skin and skin with dermatitis problems.
• Witch hazel hydrolate : astringent, decongestant and soothing. It is also purifying and anti-couperose. Excellent for sensitive, oily or impure skin.
• Mint hydrolate: astringent, refreshing and skin-purifying. It is perfect for impure skin because it can revitalize and illuminate the skin, and can also soothe redness and relieve itching.
• Helichrysum hydrolate: an excellent astringent, refreshing and purifying. Specific for combination and impure skin but also very valid for sensitive skin, with rosacea or dermatitis.
• Tea tree hydrolate : it is typically antibacterial, refreshing and purifying. In addition to being perfect for oily and impure skin, it is also capable of fighting acne.
• Thyme hydrolate : specific for oily and acne-prone skin, it boasts excellent antibacterial, antifungal and healing properties.
