Protecting your hair during sports and swimming helps protect your hair from the stress that sweat , chlorine or tight hairstyles can cause.
Sport is a friend of circulation, stimulates the release of serotonin - the hormone of good mood - and helps you to release stress and worries.
However, during sports activity the production of salt and sebum increases, which are contained in sweat and can dry out the hair, making it dull .
The rubbing that occurs during movement, however, can make the hair more fragile and prone to breakage.
If you love the swimming pool , chlorine and caps made of non-breathable materials can dry out and weaken your hair, making it dull and lifeless.
But don't worry, here are my tips for protecting your hair during sports!
Gather your hair
Tied hair is essential if you play sports and have medium-long hair; however, we often make the mistake of tying it incorrectly, choosing high and very tight ponytails, perhaps with too many turns of elastic or hairpins that tear the hair.
A tight ponytail risks breaking and weakening your hair, and keeping your hair too close to your head risks blocking sweat on your scalp, limiting transpiration.
If your sport allows it, choose a soft hairstyle , such as a braid or a soft bun, perhaps tied with an elastic band that does not break the hair, such as Invisibobble elastic bands .
If you really can't avoid the ponytail, be careful not to always tie your hair in the same place and replace the hairpins with a headband or bandana.
Wash your hair after your workout
Sweat can dry out your hair and can cause itchy, irritated scalp, so it is important to remove sweat from your hair after working out.
If your hair is clean and you just need to remove sweat, you don't need to use shampoo: you can rinse with water only or use an alternative hair wash .
Alternative washes are great for having clean, soft hair without stressing the scalp too much.
For example, you can try Co-Wash Yuniwa Cosmetics , a full-bodied cream with a cleansing, detangling, strengthening and illuminating action.
This Co-Wash smells of pears and vanilla and allows you to have clean, stress-free hair.
Apply to damp hair, massage thoroughly, emulsify with water and rinse well. You don't need to apply conditioner or mask after cleansing, your hair will be clean, soft and disciplined!
Bonus: You can also use it to cleanse your body, so you can carry just one product in your bag!
If you need to wash your hair, use a delicate shampoo suitable for frequent washing , such as YU Delicate Shampoo .
Dry gently
After washing your hair, pat dry the excess water without rubbing and detangle your hair with your fingers, a wide-toothed comb or a wooden brush.
Use a heat protector and dry holding the hairdryer at least 20 cm from your head, selecting the lowest speed and temperature.
If you train often and therefore need to wash your hair very frequently, avoid - when possible - using straighteners or curling irons : the very high temperatures put our hair to the test!
Hair and pool
If you train in the pool, it is important to protect your hair from the action of chlorine, which dries and dehydrates it.
Before entering the pool, wet your hair with fresh water : the hair will already be soaked in water and will tend to absorb less of the water from the pool.
If your pool rules allow it, you can apply a hair wrap to your hair to protect and moisturize it during your workout.
You can apply coconut oil or argan oil, for a nourishing pack or a strengthening pack that hydrates the hair from the root. The Yuniwa strengthening pack in travel size is great to take with you wherever you go, without taking up space in your gym bag!
A great system can be to use a double cap : gather your hair in a soft lycra cap and wear the silicone or latex cap over it. This way your hair will be protected from rubbing with the silicone that can break and pull the hair.
If you can't wash your hair immediately after your workout, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water to remove any chlorine residue.
If you have colored hair , use specific products for treated hair or even after-sun hair products.
